JSGE／AGA創立100周年記念日米ジョイントシンポジウム

　　“Celebration of 100Years of Excellence”

　日本とアメリカの消化器病学会が，まもなく創立100周年を迎えることになる。
　本号1面に記載のように，アメリカ消化器病学会（American Gastroenterological Society:AGA）は1997年が，また日本消化器病学会（Japanese Society of Gastroenterology:JSGE）は1998年がともに創立100年の年にあたり，日米両国はこれを記念して双方でジョイントシンポジウムを開催することになった。
　そして，「第10回アジア太平洋消化器病学会議」，「第7回アジア太平洋消化器内視鏡学会議」，「第38回日本消化器病学会大会」，および「第52回日本消化器内視鏡学会総会」の4学会がパシフィコ横浜において共催されるのを機に，その会期中の9月23日に，まず日本で「JSGE／AGA創立100周年記念日米ジョイントシンポジウム」が開かれた。
　今回のテーマは，「Technologies for the Future of Gastroenterology（消化器病学会の未来のための諸技術）」。ジョイントシンポジウムでは，冒頭に第38回日本消化器病学会大会の木村健会長（自治医大教授）から祝辞と開会の辞があり，佐藤信紘（順大），Chung Owyang（ミシガン大）両氏の司会のもとに，4つのサイエンティフィックセッションに分かれて報告・討論が行なわれた後，アメリカ消化器病学会のTadataka Yamada会長の閉会の辞で棹尾を飾った。
